Spring Clean Your Skin With Ayurveda

During winter, dry skin is a common complaint. As the air freshens and warms with spring, our skin is crying out for detoxification. This is because Ama, the toxins that accumulated in winter, are melting and blocking your body’s energy channels. So to bring your skin back into shape this spring, follow these practices to cleanse your body from within and exfoliate your skin.

Hydration

Always consume warm lemon water before you eat to stimulate digestion and improve elimination. You were probably drinking less water in the cold winter weather, so now is the time to ensure you increase your water intake throughout the day.

Diet

Springtime is considered to have a Kapha nature, therefore reducing sweet, salty, and sour taste profiles are best. It’s also helpful to reduce dairy, eggs, and fatty meats in your diet. Eat these detoxifying foods, rich in water-soluble fibres for glowing skin:

Exercise

It’s important to exercise for at least 30 minutes daily to boost metabolism and aid the detoxification process. Brisk walking or even cycling is an excellent way to get back in the habit of exercising and become reacquainted with the beauty that nature offers. You could also try yoga first thing in the morning, incorporating asanas to keep the chest open.

Sleep
